How to care for diamond jewelry
Diamonds resist scratching well, but the stone, its setting and its metal still need thoughtful care.
Cleaning your jewelry
Follow the care instructions for your particular piece. For suitable diamond jewelry, mild soap, warm water and a soft brush can remove everyday buildup. Rinse carefully away from an open drain and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
Checking for damage
A loose stone, bent prong or damaged clasp calls for inspection before the piece is worn again. Diamonds can chip after a hard impact. Avoid abrasive cleaners and do not assume an ultrasonic or steam cleaner is suitable for your setting.
Storage and everyday wear
Store pieces separately so diamonds do not rub against other jewelry. Remove jewelry for work or activities that could catch a setting or strike the stone.
Care for the setting
Cleaning advice should take the whole piece into account, including treatments and metal. If you are unsure, have a qualified jeweler examine it before cleaning.
